GroundwaterIntro
About GroundwaterIntro
Why again an introduction to groundwater? Too often I wondered why nobody told me earlier, when I arrived at a simple explanation for some groundwater aspect. As the planet's movements are much easier understood with a central place for the sun, so is groundwater fairly simple when observed from the right angle. GroundwaterIntro contains many such convenient views and I am confident that it is not merely more of the same.
GroundwaterIntro is set up as a complete introductory course for Highschool graduates. A corresponding knowledge of mathematics, physics and chemistry is required. The recommended sequence of modules is presented in the Table of Contents; new students must start with module STRT for a first acquaintance with groundwater and its vocabulary. GoundwaterIntro may be used as reference too. A hydrologist will have no problem locating the relevant module.
GroundwaterIntro is written and spoken in English. The English texts have been verified by a corrector. I decided to produce the voice-overs with my own voice, although I am not a native English-speaking person. I hope you will appreciate my foreign pronunciation.
The vast majority of users know English as a second language and my using basic English may be an advantage.
The structure of the site allows for different languages of the voice-over. These may be inserted upon request, in collaboration with the applicant.
Unfortunately, because of limited energy and time, I will not be able to answer requests for additional explanation of groundwater aspects. However, I will gladly receive suggestions for improving GroundwaterIntro.
I assume no responsibility for injury or damage resulting from the use of GroundwaterIntro.
GroundwaterIntro is free for all; for self-study, but also for class-teaching, guided by an instructor. The aid of an instructor may be important, as GroundwaterIntro provides no exercises or additional explanation. Studying and deliberating with fellow-students is highly advisable, especially when no teacher is available.
A pdf-version of all figures is available for making personal notes.
Finally, a very brief introduction as to who I am: Bram Bot, retired groundwater hydrologist in The Netherlands. I have worked as a consultant and designer in groundwater and geotechnics, for more than half a century, mostly in The Netherlands, U.S.A., Canada and Indonesia.
I hope GroundwaterIntro will be a pleasure for many.
